Sustainability advice from engineers, given while the design can still change. We help architects, developers and owners decide which measures belong in the building, how they work together, and what they mean for a future certification, before those choices are fixed in drawings.

What is sustainability consultancy?
Sustainability consultancy is the advice that sits before and around a certification: which measures a building should carry, how they affect energy, water and comfort, and how they position the project for LEED, BREEAM, DGNB, WELL or Parksmart if the client decides to certify.
It is most useful at concept and early design stage, when a change costs a sketch rather than a site instruction. A ventilation strategy, a façade decision or a heat-recovery system chosen at that point shapes every system that follows.
Our advice comes from the engineering side. The people recommending a measure are the people who can model it, size it and test it, so a recommendation arrives with a clear idea of how it will perform and what it will ask of the rest of the design.
the process
How the work runs
step 01
Brief
We review the design, the site and the client's goals, and agree what the project needs to achieve: lower running costs, a certification level, a reporting requirement, or all three.
step 02
Options
We set out the measures worth considering, with their effect on energy, comfort and cost, supported by energy modelling or simulation where the decision calls for it.
step 03
Integration
Chosen measures are written into the design brief and coordinated with the architects, engineers and contractors on the project, so they survive into construction.
step 04
Readiness
The project leaves the design stage ready for the certification it is aiming at, or ready to pursue one later without redesign.
from our portfolio
Projects shaped by early advice
From private residences to public infrastructure, projects where the sustainability decisions were made early.
Good sustainability advice is specific. It names the measure and explains what it will do in this building.
It also holds up when the engineers start detailing it.
01 engineering
Advice that can be engineered
Our recommendations come from people who design and test building systems, so each one arrives with a view on how it will perform and what it asks of the rest of the design.
02 timing
Early, when it costs least
We work at concept and early design stage, where a better decision costs a revision rather than a change on site.
03 certification
Ready for any rating system
We work across LEED, BREEAM, DGNB, WELL and Parksmart, so the measures we recommend keep the certification options open rather than locking the project into one.
04 coordination
Working with your team
Whether we also handle MEP design, modelling or testing on the project or not, we work with the project's architects and engineers from the first meeting.
