the brief

Coordinating mechanical systems for a major hospital

For Varese Hospital, we provided project and design management for the mechanical systems, working for Cofely GDF Suez. The development covers approximately 70,000 m².

The assignment was led by Ing. Danilo Franchi and brought together two responsibilities: coordinating the mechanical design and managing the testing of the installed systems.

Hospitals are among the most demanding buildings for mechanical engineering. Heating, ventilation and air-conditioning serve wards, clinical areas and technical spaces, each with its own needs, and they are expected to run reliably around the clock.

Coordination keeps the many parts of such a design consistent with one another, and testing confirms that what was designed is what actually operates in the building. Placing both under one management role gave the project a continuous line of responsibility from design through to verification.

A short call is usually enough to tell whether the certification target and the engineering can be made to agree from the start. We can talk through where the constraints are likely to sit, what the rating realistically requires of the building, and how the two come together before any drawings are committed.
