the brief

HVAC engineering for oil infrastructure

In 2015 we provided building services and HVAC engineering for the 30-inch oil pipeline project at Hassi Messaoud, Algeria. The assignment was undertaken for IRCO, in connection with ABB and Sonatrach.

Hassi Messaoud lies in the Algerian Sahara and is the centre of one of the country's major oil fields.

Infrastructure in such an environment faces severe conditions: high temperatures, dust and long distances from support. The facilities that house equipment and people need HVAC systems that protect sensitive installations and keep conditions safe and workable.

This project forms part of our industrial infrastructure portfolio and shows how building services engineering supports industry well beyond conventional buildings.

A short call is usually enough to tell whether the certification target and the engineering can be made to agree from the start. We can talk through where the constraints are likely to sit, what the rating realistically requires of the building, and how the two come together before any drawings are committed.
