We were responsible for the complete mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) systems design, together with CFD consultancy, for the proposed redevelopment of Milan's historic Maspes Vigorelli velodrome into a multipurpose sports and events arena.
The scope covered heating, ventilation and air-conditioning, electrical installations, water supply and sanitary drainage. Covering approximately 12,500 m², the proposal combined building services engineering with an architectural strategy that makes room for sporting, entertainment and educational activities while preserving the venue's historic identity.
A venue with so many uses asks a lot of its systems. Crowds, performers and athletes need comfortable conditions, and the building has to respond well whether it is full for an event or quiet between them. CFD consultancy helps here by showing how air and heat are likely to move through large, open spaces before design decisions are fixed.
We worked within a multidisciplinary design team alongside Vittorio Grassi, Populous and SBP, with Ing. Marija Golubovic contributing to the project.
