the brief

Commissioning a data centre for LEED

In 2016 we acted as Commissioning Authority for the DC01 data centre in Cornaredo, working for Cofely GDF Suez. The facility covers approximately 4,200 m².

The assignment covered fundamental commissioning as part of the facility's LEED certification process.

Data centres depend on their building systems in a very direct way. Cooling and power must work continuously and predictably, because the equipment inside cannot tolerate interruption or overheating.

Fundamental commissioning verifies that the main systems are installed, calibrated and performing as intended. In a data centre, this confirmation carries great practical value: it helps the facility begin operation on a reliable footing and supports its energy performance goals from day one.

A short call is usually enough to tell whether the certification target and the engineering can be made to agree from the start. We can talk through where the constraints are likely to sit, what the rating realistically requires of the building, and how the two come together before any drawings are committed.
