the brief

Understanding how diplomatic premises use energy and water

In 2020 we carried out energy and water audits for the Canadian Embassy and Residence in Belgrade, working for Canada's foreign ministry. The premises cover approximately 4,700 m².

Alongside the audits, we assessed the HVAC systems and carried out retro-commissioning.

An audit shows where energy and water are going and where there is room to use less. An HVAC assessment looks at the condition and operation of the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems. Retro-commissioning then checks existing systems against how they should be working, and helps bring them back in line where they have drifted over the years.

Together, these steps give an owner a well-founded picture of an operating building. For diplomatic premises, which need to work reliably every day, that picture is a practical basis for improving efficiency and comfort with confidence.

A short call is usually enough to tell whether the certification target and the engineering can be made to agree from the start. We can talk through where the constraints are likely to sit, what the rating realistically requires of the building, and how the two come together before any drawings are committed.
