In 2020 we used a performance-based CFD approach to assess the car-park ventilation system at BIG Fashion Mall in Belgrade. The shopping centre covers approximately 22,000 m².
The study examined system performance against safety objectives for both normal operation and emergency conditions.
In normal operation, a car-park ventilation system needs to dilute pollutants from vehicles so the space stays healthy for visitors. In an emergency, it plays a part in managing smoke, which is essential for the safety of people and firefighters.
Computational fluid dynamics shows how air and smoke are likely to move through the space. A performance-based approach uses these results to test the design against the outcomes it must achieve. We applied the same approach at BIG Fashion Mall in Novi Sad.
