the brief

Comfortable heating for a place of worship

For the Curia di Milano, we provided mechanical, HVAC and plumbing design for San Filippo Neri Church in Milan. The project concerned approximately 1,800 m².

The assignment covered preliminary, detailed and workshop design, including the warm-air heating system serving the worship space.

Churches pose a particular design question. Worship halls are tall, open volumes, often used intensively for a few hours and quietly for the rest of the week. Heating needs to bring comfort when the congregation gathers, without spending energy on a large space when it stands empty.

Following the design through every stage helped keep the solution consistent with the character and use of the building. San Filippo Neri is one of several ecclesiastical projects we have carried out for the Curia di Milano.

A short call is usually enough to tell whether the certification target and the engineering can be made to agree from the start. We can talk through where the constraints are likely to sit, what the rating realistically requires of the building, and how the two come together before any drawings are committed.
