the brief

HVAC engineering for an ocean liner

A member of our team worked on the marine HVAC engineering for Queen Mary 2, for Voltas, part of the Tata Group. The ship was built at the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire. The project comes from our colleague's experience before Energo, and it is part of what our team brings to marine work.

Queen Mary 2 is a transatlantic ocean liner, designed to carry thousands of passengers across open ocean in comfort.

On a passenger ship, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning have a great deal to do. Cabins, public rooms, restaurants and crew spaces each need suitable conditions, and the systems must cope with changing climates as the ship crosses the ocean.

A short call is usually enough to tell whether the certification target and the engineering can be made to agree from the start. We can talk through where the constraints are likely to sit, what the rating realistically requires of the building, and how the two come together before any drawings are committed.
