the brief

Engineering for a church and community complex

For the Curia di Milano, we provided building services and HVAC engineering, combined with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis, for the Madre Teresa di Calcutta ecclesiastical complex in Milan. The complex covers approximately 6,500 m².

An ecclesiastical complex brings together very different spaces: a worship hall that fills and empties with the rhythm of services, alongside rooms for community life that are used throughout the week.

CFD analysis helps in exactly this kind of setting. By simulating how air and heat move through tall, open spaces, it shows how a system is likely to perform and where comfort might be improved, before the design is fixed.

The complex is part of our portfolio of religious and community buildings, which includes several projects for the Curia di Milano.

A short call is usually enough to tell whether the certification target and the engineering can be made to agree from the start. We can talk through where the constraints are likely to sit, what the rating realistically requires of the building, and how the two come together before any drawings are committed.
