New Aosta Ice Rink – Integrated Systems Design by Energo

Energo oversaw the integrated systems design of the New Aosta Ice Rink, a complex, highly specialized sports facility characterized by high standards of safety, energy efficiency, environmental comfort, and operational reliability.
The project coordinated all of the building’s main technological systems, with an approach geared toward intelligent management, sustainability, and operational continuity.

Mechanical and Ice Refrigeration Systems

  • Design of the central heating and cooling system serving the hockey and curling rinks, with highly efficient production of cold and hot fluids.
  • Integration of heat recovery from refrigeration units to cover heating, domestic hot water, and air preheating needs.
  • Dedicated dehumidification systems to protect the ice surface and precisely control relative humidity.
  • Multi-zone HVAC systems for rinks, grandstands, locker rooms, utility rooms, offices, and service areas, designed to meet different usage profiles.
  • Advanced design of Air Handling Units (AHUs) with EC fans, heat recovery, high-performance filters, and advanced control logic.
  • Complete plumbing and sanitation systems, including anti-legionella systems, technical water circuits, and reverse osmosis for the curling rink.

Building Management System (BMS) and Energy Management System (EMS)

  • Design of a centralized BMS system as a single control room for the control and supervision of all technological systems.
  • Real-time monitoring of energy, environmental, and system operation parameters.
  • Advanced management of alarms, historical trends, energy reports, and schedules.

Integration of HVAC, lighting, electrical, security, and renewable energy systems.

Compliance with the latest European standards for building automation and energy performance (EPBD, UNI EN ISO 52120).

Electrical and Special Systems

  • Complete design of low and medium voltage electrical distribution systems, electrical panels, and power lines.
  • Grounding and equipotential bonding systems, coordinated with protection systems.
  • Ordinary, safety, and emergency lighting systems, compliant with sports and safety regulations.

Special systems design, including:

  • Fire Detection (IRAI)
  • Sound diffusion and EVAC

  • Hockey Rink (high-level competitions and television broadcasts)

Achieving high levels of illumination, uniformity, and glare control, in compliance with UNI EN 12193 standards.

Optimized solutions for visual comfort for athletes, spectators, and media operators.

Fire Safety Systems

  • Design of the entire active fire protection system, including:
  • Hydrant networks and hose reels
  • Pumping units and water reserves
  • Portable fire extinguishers and safety signs
  • Coordination with the fire prevention project and full compliance with the Fire Prevention Code.

Lightning Protection

  • Lightning risk analysis and lightning protection system (LPS) design.
  • Integration of surge protection systems to protect electrical and electronic equipment.

Photovoltaic System

  • Design of a grid-connected photovoltaic system aimed at reducing energy consumption and CO₂ emissions.
  • Integration of the renewable energy system with a BMS/EMS system for performance monitoring and energy flow optimization.
