Large scale 3D analysis & simulation for the Pavilion.

The building encloses an  open atrium which is covered  with glass panels. Atrium   serves   as entrances to the building. Enclosed spaces will be air‐conditioned so their heating/cooling  loads  will  be  offset  by HVAC equipment, and temperatures inside will be adequate. Open atrium presents a challenge since its covered by glass panels so  summer temperatures can be high if airflow is not sufficient.

The  purpose of  this  analysis was to  determine air temperature and velocity field inside the  open atrium.   
In order to adequately answer to the request of the design teams and the architects it was  decided that energy modelling  together with CFD simulations will be used. 
Analysis will be separated in  two  phases: 
• Large scale analysis using advanced  energy  modelling software  and   
• Detailed expert  analysis using CFD  software

Thermal conditions in an open space enclosed by an air‐conditioned building vary significantly depending on external conditions. In order to  be able to predict air temperature inside  the  atrium the following parameters, characteristics and 3D geometry must be taken into account.
